In 1982 a creative, talented actor and director, Jim Crisp, walked onto the Macon scene. Not long after his arrival, Jim founded Theatre Macon, an institution that has been providing quality live entertainment to those visiting Downtown Macon and masterful direction for those looking to hone their acting skills during its 32 successful seasons.
Such a triumphantly long run did not happen by chance. Middle Georgia is home to a vast pool of talented actors, designers, choreographers, musicians and volunteers. BUT without the leadership of a professional Artistic Theater Director, the past three decades of rave reviews would not have been possible.
Not only has the theater brought the highest levels of entertainment to those who attend, but it has been a home for generations of Middle Georgians. Theatre Macon has been a home to married couples who met while working on our stage, parents who have worked beside their children on our stage, and patrons who have watched their children grow up performing on our stage.
Theatre Macon has enhanced the educations of our talented young people through the Youth Actors Company. Numerous alums of this program are on the stages of Broadway and the screens of Hollywood.
And while we might all like to live in the ageless fantasy of theater, reality informs us - in the not too distant future - Jim Crisp will retire. To insure Theatre Macon continues to perform at our community's expectations, a professionally trained Artistic Theatre Director is an imperative!
It is the dream of Jim, the Theatre’s Board, countless performers, backstage volunteers, and so many who have ever been transported to the magical realm of the theater, to create an endowment to insure a professional Artistic Theater Director will lead Theatre Macon into the 21st century.
It is our goal to preserve the legacy of Theatre Macon, and ensure that its longevity last long after our current YAC members are in their twilight years. Please become part of the cast which makes this dream a reality. With your support, the stage will be set for Theatre Macon's future.
