WHO WE ARE
Theatre Macon, founded in 1986 by Jim Crisp Jr., offers affordable theatrical productions, opportunities for community members to act and assist in play production, and showcases new plays in line with modern drama trends. Additionally, it provides education and training in performance, playwriting, and production techniques, along with apprenticeship opportunities in community theatre operations.
Located in historic Macon, Georgia, Theatre Macon operates in the old Ritz Theater building downtown on Cherry Street, offering one of the region's most intimate performance venues. Annually, we produce nine full-length productions: six Mainstage productions, two Youth Artists' Company productions, and one major summer production. Auditions and technical positions posted on our website's audition page and are open to the public.
YOUTH ARTISTS'
Theatre Macon Youth Artists' Company, established in 1988, offers Middle Georgia youth the chance to hone their talents in theatre arts. The company stages two full-length productions annually with open auditions for all. Youth ages 8-18 from public, private, or homeschool settings are invited to participate. In 2019, the Youth Actors' Company was renamed the Youth Artists' Company to reflect its expanded inclusion of various artists, including actors, technicians, and musicians.
EDUCATION
Theatre Macon Education, established in 2020, aims to enhance the knowledge of theatre arts and related fields within our community. Our programming caters to adults and youth, offering a safe space for learning and exploration. Theatre Macon Education provides courses covering theatre performance, tech, and other theatre adjacent areas. Each summer, the Theatre Macon Academy provides two 5-day intensives for young performers to grow their expertise in theatre education and production.
